In the special exhibition of the opening, “Beneath the Mountain, Along the Water,” shows the direction of the vision of the Jeonnam Museum of Art. It reflects the flowing water in awe of beautiful nature and contains the meaning of sharing the re-lighting of the world of works by artists who look back and take footprints.

The special exhibition of the opening showcases works by 13 artists from three countries and consists of Uijae and Namnong exhibition, a Laurent Grasso exhibition of 10 contemporary artists, including Lee Yi-nam, Baruch Gottlieb, and Kim Jin-ran. The modern view of tradition has been reinterpreted, and many works related to the expectations of this exhibition have been prepared. Works of contemporary e-x-p-r-e-s-s-i-o-n of Uijae’s Landscape Palgok Byeongpung by Lee Yi-nam, Namnong’s Samsongdo by Cho Byung-yeon, Uijae’s Mokdanhwa Ungeun by Hwang In-ki, and Uijae’s Maehwa by Heo Dal-jae will be presented. Under the theme of resistance to tradition and the creation of a new future, such artworks align with the new traditional concept for the opening exhibition. The world-renowned artist Laurent Grasso, who won the 2008 Marcel Duchamp prize, creates new pieces for the special opening exhibition of the Jeonnam Museum of Art. He reinterprets the painting of “A man on the Horse” by Yun Du-seo. He was a pioneer of the new trend of the 18th century while maintained traditions of the 17th century. Laurent also reinterprets “All the landscape of Geumgangsan Mountain (Geumgangnaesanchongdo)” by Gyeomjae Jeongseon, wo completed unique scenery landscapes technique (Jingyeongsansuhwa) in the Joseon Dynasty era. The exhibition is attracting all attention from the world.
